HAVANA, Cuba, May 16 (ACN) Upon receiving Michelle Marie Muschett Zimmermann, UNDP general director for Latin America and the Caribbean, Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel thanked the organization for its support to major national projects under way in key sectors such as food production and nutrition education, as well as for its assistance following floods and hurricanes in the island.
In reference to the Conference on Financing for Development, currently held in Havana and attended by international financial institutions, cooperation actors and government agencies, the head of state stressed the urgency of seeking mechanisms to bridge the gap between the rich North and the poor South and praised UNDP activity in Cuba, “where this agency has been very active".
On her end, Ms. Muschett Zimmermann pointed out that UNDP has a very great responsibility towards Cuba and its work has been possible thanks to the Cuban government's trust after links dating back to more than 50 years and its clear vision of development and sound public policies.
UNDP is engaged in more than 35 development-related projects implemented across Cuba.
