Cuba and UNIDO advocate strengthening ties



HAVANA, Cuba, May 10 (ACN) Cuba and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), ratified their willingness to collaborate to strengthen their relations, as well as the interest in expanding the presence of the organization in the country.

Gerardo Peñalver Portal, Minister ad interim of Foreign Affairs, held a conversation with Gerd Müller, director general of UNIDO, who is on an official visit to Cuba, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs website.

During the cordial meeting, the Cuban diplomat thanked UNIDO for its support to the Cuban efforts to achieve the lifting of the blockade imposed by the government of the United States for more than 60 years.

He also ratified the importance that Cuba gives to collaboration with UNIDO, especially in the framework of the actions to implement the Economic and Social Development Plan until 2030.

In this regard, they referred to the actions to be developed in the framework of the Country Program until 2025, which cover key economic areas, such as the food sector, pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries, energy efficiency, among others.

UNIDO is the entity of the United Nations system in charge of promoting and accelerating inclusive industrial development among its member states, of which Cuba is a founding member.
