HAVANA, Cuba, May 6 (ACN) Miguel Diaz-Canel, first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and president of the country, met today in Havana with Winnie Byanyima, executive director of the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS).
During the meeting, Diaz-Canel presented ideas on Cuba's strategy to deal with the disease, the Presidency stated on X.
The country's strategy is based on social prevention and has a community, multidisciplinary and intersectoral projection, Cuban president said.
Byanyima acknowledged the work of the Caribbean island at the forefront in the fight against this disease, despite the economic difficulties it is going through.
The relationship between UNAIDS and Cuba began in late 1990, through a project to support the National STD/HIV/AIDS program, with a significant contribution in terms of consultancy, drug acquisition and capacity building for its strengthening.
