HAVANA, Cuba, May 1 (ACN) Hundreds of thousands of Cuban people fulfilled today the call of the country's top leadership to fill the Anti-imperialist Tribune, venue of the celebrations for the International Workers' Day.
Army General Raúl Castro Ruz, leader of the Cuban Revolution, and Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, together with other leaders, attended the event.
They joined the demand of Cubans and friends of the world for the lifting of the US economic blockade against the island, its exclusion from the unilateral list of alleged State sponsors of terrorism and the cessation of the genocide perpetrated by the Zionist forces against the people of Palestine.
One of these solidarity activists is the young Alexandra Valai, from Greece, who in her first visit to Cuba as a member of the International May Day Volunteer Work Brigade highlighted to the Cuban News Agency the history of solidarity and resistance that unites her homeland with the Caribbean nation.
She explained that thanks to this tradition, the examples of Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz and the Heroic Guerrilla Ernesto Che Guevara have a great impact among the Greek youth and this was the reason that led her to be interested in learning about the Cuban reality and the roots of their struggle.
From her exchanges with Cubans she commented on the simplicity and human quality that characterizes them, for which she considers that, no matter how many pressures and shortages are imposed on them, they will not give up the ideas instilled by the Revolution, and these will survive adapting to the contexts but without losing their essence.
Unlike most countries, where the date is accompanied by workers' demonstrations to claim their rights, in Cuba it represents a celebration to reaffirm the will to defend the conquests achieved, she added.
On this point, Luis Dairon Verdecia Salazar, representative of the Union of Young Communists in the Customs of Mercantile Control, shared his opinion with the ACN that despite certain current imbalances, which occur not only in our country but also in the immediate area, there are values that are pillars for the process such as humanity, solidarity, unity and therefore cannot be overlooked.
In his opinion, in these principles lies the potential to grow as people and revolutionaries and to advance together as a country, all in function of contributing to the economic and social development and putting this strength before the real effects of the blockade and overcoming them with our own capacity and efforts.
Alejandro Rodriguez Rodriguez, a resident of the Playa municipality, who came to the Tribune accompanied by his family and said that in his case he comes with his little boy in his arms because he felt the duty to initiate him in this tradition of May Day in Cuba, agreed with these appreciations.
We have been here since very early in the morning with many people, colorful and with the company of the people who have come once again to support their Revolution and to speak out against the blockade and in favor of the Palestinian cause, he said.
