Havana, April 29 (ACN) Canadian activists expressed their long-time solidarity with Cuba as they set up the 30th Che Guevara brigade at the Havana-based Cuban Friendship Institute (ICAP).
Institute president Fernando Gonzalez Llort thanked the brigade for its permanent support of Cuba and the activists’ firm stance against the current discrediting and manipulation campaign launched against the island’s reality.
Canada’s Che Guevara brigade has sent thousands of its members to Cuba. They have toured local neighborhoods, schools, hospitals, cultural and scientific centers, so they have been able to take a first-hand look at Cuban reality, marked by the over 60-year US economic blockade, said Gonzalez.
The criminal US policy was reinforced with the inclusion of Cuba on the unilateral US list of states sponsors of terrorism, which puts restrictions to the access to credit lines and crucial raw materials.
Brigade member Samantha Hislop ratified the group’s commitment to stand by Cuba by adding more activists.
Some 42 Canadian activists attended the ceremony along other Canadian citizens representing the Marxist-Leninist Communist Party, the Congress for Peace, the Postal Workers Union and other visitors.
The Che Guevara brigade will attend Havana’s May Day celebrations this week.
