HAVANA, Cuba, Apr 29 (ACN) Attiya Waris, independent expert of the Human Rights Council on the consequences of the Foreign Debt, is making an academic visit to Cuba starting today.
Cuban foreign ministry informed on its website that the official will participate at the 2nd Congress "50th Anniversary of the New International Economic Order", organized by the National Association of Economists and Accountants of Cuba (ANEC) and the Progressive International.
Waris will carry out a busy program of activities, including exchanges with different authorities and institutions of the country, in which she will be able to confirm the negative impact of the foreign debt and the US blockade on the enjoyment of the human rights of Cubans.
As part of her agenda in the Caribbean country, she will hold a meeting with representatives of Cuban civil society to exchange experiences, good practices and lessons learned on the protection of human rights in Cuba, and in particular on the impact of foreign debt on their enjoyment.
The expert's stay in Cuba is part of the cooperation Cuba is developing with the UN human rights mechanism and its institutions of universal and non-discriminatory application.
