Leader of Red Cross and Red Crescent in Cuba

Havana, April 8 (ACN) Cuba’s first deputy Foreign Minister Gerardo Penalver met in Havana with visiting general secretary and executive director of the International Federation of National Societies of the Red Cross and the Red Crescent movement, Jagan Chapagain.

Penalver said that Chapagain’s visit here will contribute to ongoing relations with the Red Cross and the Red Crescent and thanked the assistance by those organizations to Cuba during natural disasters and accidents.

Chapagain on his part expressed satisfaction to be in Cuba and acknowledged the role of the Cuban Red Cross and the country’s expertise in protecting the people in the face of any disaster.

The International Federation of the Red Cross and the Red Crescent Societies is the largest humanitarian organization in the world. It supports Red Cross and the Red Crescent organizations in over 191 countries and gathers over 16 million volunteers supporting humanitarian actions.
