Diaz-Canel denounces attempts to misrepresent Cuban reality

HAVANA, Cuba, Mar 19 (ACN) Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez, first secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba and president of the country, denounced today the subversive attempts to distort the reality of the Caribbean nation.

During his tour of the exhibition areas of the 3rd International Colloquium Patria, in which he was accompanied by Manuel Marrero Cruz, member of the Political Bureau of the Party and Cuban premier, along with other leaders and authorities, the Cuban leader made statements to the press where he condemned the meddling positions of representatives of the U.S. government.

Diaz-Canel urged those U.S. authorities not to meddle in the internal affairs of the nation and to deal with the protests and demonstrations taking place in their own territory.

He also noted that in the face of media manipulation and disinformation campaigns, events of this kind take on special relevance, while praising its growth in participants and thematic agendas that invite progressive forces to have an increasingly solid positioning in digital platforms and networks.

The first secretary of the Party reiterated Cuba's support to the cause of the Palestinian people suffering from the genocide perpetrated by the Zionist State of Israel, and its solidarity with the Venezuelan brothers and sisters who face, like the Cuban people, the consequences of the economic sanctions imposed for the mere fact of not submitting to the hegemonic script.

You, the professionals of the press, as the spokespersons of the truth, have the mission of appropriating the spaces traditionally occupied by the reactionary right wing and take advantage of the gaps in that information monopoly to reflect the reality and aspirations of popular projects dedicated to give voice to the most humble, he exhorted.

Convened by the Cuban Journalists Association (UPEC by its Spanish acronym), the event, which will last until tomorrow, brings together at the Pabexpo Fairgrounds more than 200 participants representing 28 countries, developing panels, workshops and presentations on digital communication and the exchange of experiences in different parts of the world.
