HAVANA, Cuba, Mar 19 (ACN) Miguel Diaz-Canel Beremudez, first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and president of the country, received on Monday afternoon Jorge Arreaza, executive secretary of the Bolivarian Alliance for the People of Our America-People's Trade Agreement (ALBA-TCP).
Upon receiving him at the Palace of the Revolution, the Cuban leader referred to the active role that ALBA-TCP should play, as reported on X of the Presidency.
Also, Diaz-Canel congratulated Arreaza on his appointment as head of the "Our American" alliance, which was founded on December 14, 2004 by Commander Hugo Chavez Frias and Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz.
During the talks, the head of state recalled that no integrationist bloc in the region had achieved so many results in such a short period of time, such as cooperation in health, Operation Miracle, Petrocaribe and other initiatives promoted by its leaders and which benefited millions.
Arreaza emphasized the need to care for and reactivate this valuable regional integration mechanism.
During the meeting, Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla, Cuban foreign minister, exchanged with Arreaza on the prospects of the Alliance's cooperation programs.
Arreaza was appointed to the post on February 19, replacing Felix Plasencia.
ALBA-TCP was founded in opposition to the former FTAA (Free Trade Area of the Americas), with emphasis on the social dimension, which takes the human being as the foundation and epicenter of integration and union, on the principles of solidarity, complementarity, justice and cooperation, uniting the capacities and strengths of its member countries.
