Cubans Mark 45 Anniversary of the Grenadian Revolution

Havana, March 13 (ACN) An expert panel in Havana marked the 45th anniversary of the Grenadian Revolution, headed by Maurice Bishop on March 13th, 1979.

During the event, held at Havana’s ALBA Cultural Center, the director for Central America, Mexico and the Caribbean at the Cuban Foreign Ministry, Rafael Dausa, said that the Grenadian Revolution was one of the leftist regional movements with a strong impact on this part of the world.

Dausa stressed the historic political, economic, cultural and friendly relations between Cuba and Grenada. He recalled the training of Grenadian professionals in Cuba, the work of Cuban doctors in that Caribbean island nation and the environmental accords signed by the two countries.

Meanwhile, Jorge Luna, a journalist with PL news agency who worked in Grenada during revolution years, recalled that Cuba was the first nations to have recognized the new government formed in 1979.

The great merit of the Grenadian Revolution was that it occurred ion one of the smallest nations of the world with a small population, said the journalist.

The event also recalled the assassination of Maurice Bishop and the military invasion launched on the island by the US administration on October 25, 1983.

Attending the expert panel was Glen Benedict Noel, Grenadian ambassador to Cuba along Maurice George Goodwin, ambassador of Antigua and Barbuda, and other members of the diplomatic community in Havana, as well as other personalities.
