Cuba congratulates Cuban architects on their day

HAVANA, Cuba, Mar 13 (ACN) Manuel Marrero Cruz, Cuban Prime Minister, sent on X, a hug and recognition to Cuban architects on their day.

On this date, Roberto Morales Ojeda, member of the Political Bureau and Secretary of Organization of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, congratulated the workers of the profession with the wish that they be at the level of the student leader Jose Antonio Echeverria, an architecture student who on March 13 had as his greatest work the offering of his life to the Revolution.

March 13 is remembered in Cuba as the Day of the Cuban Architect. It was on this date that the College of Architects of Havana was established in 1916; however, it was not until December 1935, during the National Assembly of Architects, held at the Government Palace in the western city of Matanzas, that this day was established to pay tribute to the profession.

Years later, in 1957, the architecture student, president of the University Student Federation and of the Revolutionary Directorate, Jose Antonio Echeverria, led the assault on the Presidential Palace and the Radio Reloj radio station.

Echeverria, when choosing the date on which the actions would be carried out, declared in his Political Testament: Today, March 13, 1957, a day on which we honor those who have devoted their lives to the worthy profession of architect, for which I am preparing myself, at 3:20 p.m. I will participate in an action in which the Revolutionary Directorate has committed all its efforts.
