Summer time started on Sunday in the Atlantic zone

HAVANA, Cuba, Mar 11 (ACN) On Sunday came into force the daylight saving time in the Atlantic zone, which has been applied in Cuba for years with the aim of contributing to energy saving.

The initiative to change it again is also due to the greater use of sunlight in daily activities, said Professor Luis Enrique Ramos Guadalupe to the Cuban News Agency.

Ramos Guadalupe, Coordinator of the History Commission of the Cuban Meteorological Society offered interesting details on the matter, explaining that instead of taking the official time of the 75th meridian west of Greenwich (UTC -5), it is assumed that of the 60th meridian (UTC -4), center of the time zone that crosses virtually over the eastern end of Canada, the Lesser Antilles, Venezuela, western Brazil and Bolivia.

The truth is that the option to move it forward is associated with natural causes, such as the shape of the Earth, the inclination of its rotation axis, the extension of the Earth's orbit and its translation speed.

According to the Cuban expert, on Sunday, the diurnal interval in the country will be 11 hours and 55 minutes, extending every day until reaching 12 hours next Tuesday, March 19, with the boreal spring equinox at 11:06 p.m., Cuban time.

Then, daytime and nighttime intervals will be practically the same, he predicted.

From Sunday we will have to put our "biological clock" in harmony with the new time, without worrying about the time we lost, because on November 3 the spheres will return to mark the time, he affirmed.
