HAVANA, Cuba, Mar 8 (ACN) Cuban Women's Federation (FMC by its Spanish acronym) will announce its new National Secretariat, as part of the 11th Congress of the organization that concludes today, in Havana.
On the closing day, the opinions of the four working commissions that met at the Havana Convention Center will be presented, which were focused on the economic empowerment of women, the preventive educational work of the FMC in the formation of values and community social work, and the attention to youth.
The more than 300 delegates from all over the country participating in the congress will approve the main report and the work projections for the next five years.
On Thursday, Teresa Amarelle Boue, secretary general of the FMC, expressed that the event constitutes the closing of a complex stage for the country in socioeconomic issues, where women have been a key pillar.
Regarding the economic empowerment of the women population, Yaneisy Carrazana, delegate for the central province of Camagüey, referred to the courses offered at the Women and Family Guidance Centers, which allow many women to join the labor force.
Miladys Orraca, invited to the congress and president of the Cuban Scientific Society for the Development of the Family, emphasized the problem of teenage pregnancy.
For her, the federates must be implacable in an issue such as sexual and reproductive health and therefore child marriage cannot be normalized.
She indicated that it is important to have access to contraceptive methods and their autonomous use, and that attention must be paid to abuse and violence at an early age.
FMC has to be a standard bearer in the comprehensive education of sexuality in all possible spaces so that the young generations become active entities in their communities, Hernandez noted.
The 11th Congress of the Cuban Women's Federation is dedicated to the legacy of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, to Vilma Espin Guillois (1930-2007), eternal president of the organization, to Mariana Grajales 130 years after her death and to the 65th anniversary of the Revolution.
