Havana, Feb 27 (ACN) Miguel Diaz-Canel, First Secretary of Cuba’s Communist Party Central Committee and Cuban President paid honor on Tuesday to Raul Castro Ruz and Juan Almeida Bosque on the 66th year of their promotion to Commanders of the Rebel Army.
On his X account, Diaz-Canel recalled that the two commanders participated in decisive actions like the assault on the Moncada army barracks in 1953 and the landing of the Granma boat in 1956, which opened the guerrilla war on the Sierra Maestra mountain range. https://shorturl.at/eDR35
On February 27, 1958, Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro signed two military orders promoting the two men from captains to commanders of the Rebel Army and assigned them the missions of leading new guerrilla columns.
On March 6th, with 57 rebels under his command, Juan Almeida opened the 6000-square-kilometer Mario Munoz Third Guerilla Front, where they successfully waged over 200 military actions.
On March 11, Raul Castro opened the 12-thousand-square kilometer Frank Pais Second Front in eastern Cuba with over 67 fighters under his command.
