Diaz-Canel visits Cuban eastern municipality

LAS TUNAS, Cuba, Feb 27 (ACN). Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez, first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and president of the country, toured today the municipality of Puerto Padre, in the eastern province of Las Tunas.

The visit is the continuity of the tour that took place last January in Manati, and which is part of those that began earlier this year to assess the fulfillment of the work priorities outlined for 2024.

The tour began at the feed mill, and then will continue to other sites of vital economic importance.

Miguel Abreu Larramendy, director of Tecnoazucar in the province, explained to Diaz-Canel that the Antonio Guiteras feed mill produces meat from a pork mass of over 1,500 pigs, although he explained that it is not considered a finished product but a raw material for larger quantities of sausages and other meat masses.

The executive emphasized that after the stoppage of the import of feed into the country, due to the tightening of the U.S. economic blockade, more than four years ago, the entity undertook the commitment to create two varieties of this animal feed and today they show positive and accredited results.

He also explained that currently oyster shell is added to guarantee calcium and a more balanced formulation has been achieved, which is currently deficient in the country.

He commented that the goal is to continue cultivating corn and soybean to produce around 50 tons of this animal feed for reproduction and the first stage of fattening, as well as to guarantee five tons of liquid feed and the challenge is to increase production to double the swine mass.

Diaz-Canel was interested in the production routines, exchanged with operators and commented that the factory makes good use of local resources in pursuit of the sustainability of the Tecnoazúcar company, in a place that had to be reinvented from scratch.

He also praised the plans to be carried out with zero imports and recommended achieving greater autonomy and the search for alliances with new forms of management.

The head of state was accompanied by Roberto Morales Ojeda, member of the Political Bureau and Secretary of Organization of the Central Committee of the PCC, according newspaper 26.
