HAVANA, Cuba, Feb 25 (ACN) In a message posted on X, Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel lamented the death of the beloved Cuban artist Juana Bacallao and sent his condolences to her family and friends.
“Cuba has lost one of its most charismatic and popular artists, whose work and joy will live on in our midst,” he wrote.
On his end, Alpidio Alonso Grau, Minister of Culture, referred to Ms. Bacallao as a landmark artist who made history in Cuban cabarets from the 1950s until just a few years ago and will always be remembered.
On Saturday morning, Amelia Martínez Salazar, known in Cuba and abroad as Juana Bacallao or Juana La Cubana, passed away in Havana at the age of 98.
