Havana, Feb 21 (ACN) The US Coast Guard Service returned 25 irregular Cuban migrants on Wednesday to the western harbor of Orozco in Artemisa province, next to Havana.
The group was made up of 16 men, eight women and one minor who made an illegal departure attempt on February 15 from the beach of Baracoa, in Artemisa province. They were intercepted on the sea by the US authorities, according to a release by the Cuban Interior Ministry (MININT).
Two of the returned individuals were on conditional freedom at the time they left the island, so they will be submitted to corresponding court to revoke that benefit, MININT reported.
US authorities have carried out seven return operations to Cuba this year, which have included 131 irregular migrants.
Cuba keeps its firm commitment to a safe and orderly migration, MININT explained and reiterated its warning about the danger and risks for life entailed by any illegal departures by sea, and also the involvement of minors in such actions.
