Havana, Feb 29 (ACN) The year 2023 was intense for Cuban revolutionary diplomacy but undoubtedly brought success, said Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel during the annual meeting considering the work of the Cuban Foreign Ministry last year and projections for 2024, at Havana’s Revolution Palace.
During the meeting, which was attended by Premier Manuel Marrero and Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez, participants agreed that despite the unfavorable international scenario and the complex domestic situation, Cuban exterior policy witnessed advancement last year.
Major aspects stressed in 2023 included Cuba’s pro-tempore chair of the Group of 77 plus China, major negotiating bloc of developing nations.
The denunciation of the US blockade was top on the list of most significant actions, with the UN General Assembly’s approval by overwhelming majority of the Cuba-sponsored resolution demanding the end of the US’s hostile Cuban policy, which was largely rejected by lots of voices from around the world.
In this regard the head of state called to intensify efforts to demand in a systematic way the end of the blockade.
In 2023, Cuba consolidated political high-level dialog with China, Vietnam, Russia, Belarus and other countries in Asia, Africa and the Middle East, while relations with the Non-Aligned Movement, CELAC and CARICOM go on the right direction.
Meanwhile, the Cuban President met an intense and fruitful agenda in diverse international scenarios where he took the reality of Cuba.
The meeting also addressed Cuba-US relations by noting that despite limitations and obstacles bilateral exchange and cooperation increased in areas like security, the environment, health, agriculture, science, education and culture.
On the other hand, Cuba kept strengthening relations with its nationals abroad during 2023.
The Cuban President called on Foreign Ministry workers and directives to foster comprehensive political communication and boost relations with solidarity-with-Cuba organizations abroad, and also to keep up the struggle in support of just causes in the world.
