Díaz-Canel urges prosecutors to aim for higher goals

HAVANA, Cuba, Feb 18 (ACN) Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel called on the staff of the Attorney General’s Office staff to keep improving their work on the basis of legality, integrity and transparency to permanently protect the legal and moral principles of the Revolution.

Díaz-Canel stressed that constant concern must also prevail over the occurrence of acts of corruption that undermine the moral foundations of, and sow distrust within, Cuban society, a goal that Cuba can only reach by strictly enforcing the Law, duly punishing offenders, and effectively engaging the population in the fight against these conducts.

Upon reading the entity’s annual report, Attorney General Yamila Peña Ojeda assured that her office is fully committed to its duties, which include tackling the current crime rate through prevention and working on its root cause.

“Difficulties can be overcome by fighting, and Attorney General’s Office is bent on constructing the Cuban socialist project and thus produce as much justice as possible,” she remarked.

In their meeting, prosecutors from across the nation discussed the main existing problems, including those related to gender violence, work with minors, strategies to curb labor fluctuation, and the excess of legal formalities, and possible strategies to find solutions, such as a greater involvement of the National Revolutionary Police in the legal process to reduce the judicial caseload.
