Havana, Feb 15 (ACN) Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel attended the opening ceremony on Thursday of the 32nd Havana International Book Fair, at its venue in the San Carlos de la Cabana Fortress, on the city’s bay area.
The head of state was accompanied by Parliament president Esteban Lazo, Deputy Premier Ines Maria Chapman and other Communist Party and government officials.
Margareth Menezes, minister of Culture of Brazil, which is the guest country to the far, gave opening remarks at the ceremony. Menezes heads a delegation of writers and intellectuals from her country.
She said that the presence of Brazil at the fair strengthens the commitment to tighten bilateral cultural relations with Cuba.
The fair will be hosted by several other institutions in Havana and will offer three million books from some one thousand publishing houses.
This year Havana’s International Book Fair pays honor to local writers and intellectuals Isabel Monal and Francisco Lopez Sacha.
