Cuban President Attends International Leftist Meeting

Havana, Feb 13 (ACN) Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel attended on Tuesday the second International Meeting of Theoretical Publications of Left Parties and Movements, underway at Havana’s Conventions Hall.

The meeting is attended by Cuban scholars and personalities and by over 100 intellectuals from 37 countries who are addressing the challenges pending on progressive forces and considering common strategies and actions to face the reappearance of fascism and capitalist violent escalations.

In his opening remarks of the first session of the meeting on Monday, the chief of the Cuban Communist Party’s Ideology Department Rogelio Polanco stressed the appropriate exchange of ideas and coordination of actions to back the historic struggle of the left.

Deeper thinking and more action is needed to face the omnipresence of the capital in its intentions to privatize even the dreams and wishes of the peoples and kidnap the different opinions to turn them in favor of the mean interests of imperial elites, Polanco noted.

The meeting was called by the Cuba Socialista magazine, a theoretical and political publication of the Cuban Communist Party. The gathering is co-sponsored by the Nico Lopez Communist Party University, the Casa de Las Americas cultural institution, the Cuban Chapter of the Network in Defense of Humanity and Cuban dailies Granma and Juventud Rebelde.
