HAVANA, Cuba, Feb 12 (ACN) Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez, President of the Republic of Cuba, mourned the death of fighter Felipe Guerra Matos, and conveyed his condolences to the family and friends of the outstanding revolutionary.
On X, the president stressed that the fighter, known as "Guerrita", is a living, protagonist and passionate memory of the Cuban Revolution, to which he devoted his long life.
A few days after the victory of the Revolution in 1959, leader Fidel Castro assigned Guerra Matos the responsibility of heading the General Directorate of Sports.
Guerra Matos had the titanic task of putting in order and setting in action the organizational, participatory and competitive framework of national sports, and simultaneously making the ideas and intentions of the Revolution in this sphere a reality, says the JIT publication.
This newspaper affirms that Guerrita's work is in every medal, in every performance of Cuban sports.
