Cuban Ministry of Higher Education convenes 15th International Congress Universidad 2026

HAVANA, Cuba, Feb 9 (ACN) Cuban Ministry of Higher Education (MES by its Spanish acronym) called today for the 15th International Congress on Higher Education Universidad 2026, to be held in February that year in Havana.

Reynaldo Velazquez Zaldívar, deputy minister of higher education, announced from the Havana Convention Center that the theme of the event will be "Innovation and social transformation: bets of an inclusive and diverse higher education for development".

Aware of our role in the training of future professionals and its impact on the sustainability in Cuba, the MES and its educational institutions will invite the international university community to reach a consensus on related problems and solutions, said the deputy minister.

He said that this level of education will work so that the knowledge, science and professionals that are forged in the houses of higher education become transformers of their realities and solve the multiple economic, social, political and cultural challenges of nations.

Regarding the 14th edition of Universidad, which concluded Friday in Havana, Velazquez Zaldivar praised the high level of national and foreign attendance and the attractive exhibition associated with the congress, which shows the maturity of institutional communication and the capacity of Cuban universities to showcase their achievements, challenges and potential.

He considered that higher education institutions should rethink themselves as educational, innovative and inclusive spaces, where knowledge and practices based on the principles of education for sustainable development are promoted.

The closing of Universidad 2024 was an opportunity for the Cuban and foreign university community to call for the end of the genocide in Palestine and Gaza and for the end of unilateral coercive measures that impede the sovereignty of several nations.

During the closing ceremony of the event, it was announced that the number of participants reached 3,000 experts from 45 countries, including Brazil, the United States, Mexico, Hungary, Ecuador and the Cuban delegation as host.
