14th International Congress Universidad 2024 concludes today in Havana

HAVANA, Cuba, Feb 9 (ACN) After five active days of debates on the challenges of Higher Education today, the 14th International Congress on Higher Education Universidad 2024 will conclude today at the Havana Convention Center in Havana.

Friday, the working sessions of the event will focus on the Meeting of the Agreement for the Recognition of Degrees and Diplomas and will also include a keynote speech by Jorge Luis Perdomo Di-Lella, Vice Prime Minister of the Republic.

Walter Baluja Garcia, Minister of Higher Education and President of the Organizing Committee of Universidad 2024, stressed to the press today the relevance of such an event.

Baluja Garcia highlighted the interdisciplinary nature of the conclave, since it has extended beyond the rooms of the Convention Center to reach Cuban educational institutions that are currently working to promote a Government Management System based on science, technology and innovation.

The importance of the congress is, according to the minister, that it is a space to strengthen the internationalization of Higher Education, the right to shared knowledge and the elevation of undergraduate and graduate continuing education.

On Thursday, Universidad 2024 was honored with the presence of Ines Maria Chapman Waugh, Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic, who developed her special intervention entitled "Intersectoriality, essential strengths in the promotion of gender equality", as part of the III Workshop on Gender Equality.

Chapman Waugh spoke about the National Program for the Advancement of Women and the work in strategic areas covering women's economic empowerment, the media, education, prevention and social work, access to decision-making, legislation and rights, sexual and reproductive health, and statistics and research.

The number of participants in Universidad 2024 exceeds 2,000 Cuban and foreign academics, while some 300 rectors of higher education institutions, 15 authorities of the sector and 36 international organizations linked to education came to Havana to discuss the future of this level of education.
