NUEVA GERONA, Cuba, Feb 6 (ACN) The gusts of wind associated with the cold front caused damage to housing in the southern town of Cocodrilo and in the capital city of Isle of Youth, according to preliminary information from the Risk Reduction Management Center.
In this sense, it was known that in the capital of the special municipality, the force of the wind caused partial damage to the roof of three zinc-roofed buildings and knocked down a temporary facility (wooden hut) while in Cocodrilo 19 people suffered different levels of damage to the roofs of their houses.
Yainier Pacheco Casero, member of the Municipal Bureau of the Communist Party of Cuba, said that of the 110 houses registered in that rural coastal town, 34 are in a regular technical constructive state, and three of them suffered the impact of the strong winds: two with partial loss of roof and one with total loss of roof.
Those affected include 10 minors (seven females and three males), nine adults (five females and four males, including an elderly man), who have already returned to their places of residence.
However, the meteorological station of La Fe obtained the highest records with an average wind speed of 36 kilometers per hour (km/h) and a maximum gust of 72 km/h, which occurred at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, February 5, from a northwest direction, according to meteorologist Edgardo Soler, who posted on his Facebook profile.
