Cuban institution convenes international conference dedicated to Jose Marti

NUEVA GERONA, cUBA, Jan 29 (ACN) Eduardo Torres Cuevas, member of the Council of State and director of the Office of the Marti Program, called from the Finca El Abra Museum, in the Isle of Youth, to the international day "De cara al sol" (Facing the sun).

TorrEs Cuevas, who is also president of the Jose Martí Cultural Society, said that the call is part of the commemorative day for the 130th anniversary of the death in combat of Jose Marti, which will run from January 28, 2024 to January 28, 2026, and will include both the birth and the death of Cuba's National Hero.

He explained that the purpose of this biennial day is to bring the world society closer to the roots of Cuban thought and Marti's cosmovision, which serves as a basis and guide to the country's social project.

"De cara al sol" involves Marti's institutions and solidarity with Cuba, and aims to highlight the imprint of the thought of men like Felix Varela, Jose de la Luz y Caballero, Rafael Maria de Mendive, Enrique Jose Varona, Raul Roa Garcia, Julio Antonio Mella, Ruben Martinez Villena and Antonio Guitera Holmes, he said.
He also stressed that the conference is not only for the intelligentsia, but for all sectors of the population, since studying Marti's work makes people grow spiritually.

Torres Cuevas expressed his emotion for being in the same place where Marti recovered from his physical ailments in 1870 thanks to the care provided by the Sarda-Valdes family, and for having participated in the march of the torches that the Cuban people led this January 27 in honor of the 171st anniversary of the birth of the Master.

The presentation ceremony was attended by Rafael Ernesto Licea Mojena, president of the Municipal Assembly of People's Power, Yusdanka Rodriguez Fuentes, member of the Municipal Bureau of the Communist Party of Cuba, and Fernando Leon Jacomino, vice minister of Culture.
