HAVANA, Cuba, Jan 24 (ACN) Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, Cuban Minister of Foreign Affairs, ratified in X Cuba’s commitment to the provision of free, affordable and quality education services at all levels, stating that “Education is a fundamental human right for all people”.

Article 51, Chapter VII of the Constitution of the Republic of Cuba guarantees all citizens the right to have an education provided by a far-reaching and free system of all types of schools at all levels of education and free school supplies for all students regardless of their family's economic status and which gives them opportunities to do courses based on their aptitude as well as on social demands and the needs of the country, the text adds.

The United Nations proclaimed January 24 as International Day of Education to raise awareness across the world of the importance of education to achieve the goals enshrined in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. This year’s theme is "Learning for lasting peace", focused on the key role that teachers play in the fight against hate speech.

Nowadays, about 250 million children and young people worldwide are not attending school.
