Cuban Diplomat Describes US Policy as Suffocating

Havana, Jan 22 (ACN) The Deputy Director General for the United States at the Cuban Foreign Ministry Johana Tablada described as suffocating the US policy against Cuba.

During the second session of the New “Operacion Verdad” (Operation Truth) International Conference underway in Havana, Tablada said that the US media campaign against the island is brutal and well financed to try to discredit the efforts of the Cuban government to achieve a sustainable society, according to PL news agency.

Washington has no reason whatsoever to keep attacking the Cuban government in the way it does, said Tablada as she updated participants at the conference about the Cuba-US relations. She said the United States has failed in achieving its major goal of overthrowing the Revolution, thought their blockade has been effective in deteriorating the quality of life of the Cuban people, particularly with the strengthening of economic sanctions in 2019.

One of the measures that most affect Cubans is the inclusion of the island in the US list of states sponsors of terrorism, said Tablada who also referred to the divorce between what Washington argues in terms of improving the life of Cubans and the damage inflicted by its blockade.

She condemned constant US misinformation campaigns on Cuban medical cooperation, freedom of religion, the fight on terrorism and the individuals detained after the riots that took place in Cuba in July 2021.

At present the US and the Cuban governments maintain communication in issues related to migration, the fight against drug trafficking, trafficking in persons and money laundry.

The international conference is being attended by 60 delegates from 30 nations of the world who are debating the most pressing problems in the area of communication.
