Ciego de Avila, Jan 18 (ACN) Miguel Diaz-Canel, First Secretary of Cuba’s Communist Party Central Committee and Cuban President kicked off a working agenda in this central province where he is supervising economic and social projections for 2024 and the implementation of actions aimed at relaunching the country’s economy and social work.
Diaz-Canel was accompanied by Communist Party Organization secretary Roberto Morales and by Livan Izquierdo, first Party secretary in Ciego de Avila along the local governor Alfred Menendez and other authorities.
Some of the entities toured by the head of state included that farming enterprise La Cuba and the Ecuador Sugar mill and refinery. He was interested in learning about the local food production, the workers’ salary and ways to recover the banana production at the entity, which was previously the country’s larger producer of the fruit.
The head of state was explained about the production and use of organic fertilizers to boost local crops. He also learned about day-care services to support working mothers at the place.
At the sugar mill, Diaz-Canel was briefed about the start of the sugar production process and about current limitations of lubricants and spare parts which affect the ongoing industrial process.
Sugar mill executives said they expect to carry out a small sugar campaign this year whose yield could reach little over 8 thousand tons to help guarantee the local demand of sugar.
The Cuban President also presided over a special session of the Municipal Communist Party Bureau with the participation of directives from local government and political entities.
