Cuban PM recognizes Trinidad's exceptional values

TRINIDAD, SANCTI SPIRITUS, Cuba, Jan 15 (ACN) Given the unique combination of its art, traditions, geographic scenery ranging from the mountains to the beach and the efforts of its people to preserve the city's rich heritage, Trinidad has the potential to ratify itself as one of the most attractive and sought-after tourist and cultural destinations in Cuba.

After touring on Sunday several works opened during the celebrations for the 510th anniversary of the former town and attending the Solemn Session of the Municipal Assembly of People's Power, Manuel Marrero Cruz, member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of Cuba and Prime Minister of the Republic, insisted on the link and commitment of people from the territory with a legacy that transcends from generation to generation.

Delving into the values of a site whose historic center was declared a World Heritage Site together with the Valle de los Ingenios, he detailed that here there are cultural and recreational institutions where the most autochthonous of Cuban roots are preserved in an exceptional way; meanwhile, he mentioned creators such as the Santander family and gastronomic offers born of ancestral traditions.

During the Solemn Session in which the Unique Prize for the Arts was awarded to Carlos Enrique Sotolongo, a fervent defender of the local heritage, the Prime Minister urged to improve the economy and the government's activity.

Prior to the assembly, which took place in the beautiful surroundings of the Plaza Mayor, the head of government opened several social and recreational centers that were fully recovered as part of a program that included some 300 constructive actions.

In another moment of the day, the head of government went to the Meliá Trinidad Peninsula hotel, a facility that, although it had already been providing partial services since November 16, was officially opened on Sunday with the challenge of turning it into a reference for the central region and the entire nation.

The head of the tourism sector thanked the Meliá chain for its presence and commitment to the Caribbean country; while, as it was known, this work of 401 rooms and a very young group reflects the will of Cuba to advance in sustainable development and technological innovation.

Throughout the weekend, Trinidad hosted the celebrations for its 510th anniversary, which included the founding gala that was also attended by the Cuban Prime Minister.
