Deputy Prime Minister thanks Cuba supporters in Guatemala

HAVANA, Cuba, Jan 14 (ACN) Cuban Deputy Prime Minister Jorge Luis Tapia thanked friends of the country in Guatemala for their affection for the island and their solidarity with the Revolution, which he described as encouraging and fruitful to strengthen the bonds of friendship, cooperation and fraternity between the two nations.

Tapia, who is heading a delegation to President-elect Bernardo Arevalo’s inauguration, met at the Cuban Embassy with a large number of academics and artists, including young Guatemalan who graduated from the Latin American Medical School in Havana and Cubans nationals based in Guatemala, whom he brought up to date on the situation in the island.

Silvia Solórzano, member of the political party Unidad Revolucionaria Nacional Guatemalteca (URNG-MAIZ), welcomed the delegation and thanked Cuba, whereas Mauricio Chaulón, professor of the School of History at the Universidad San Carlos de Guatemala, expressed his commitment to maintain all training and upgrading projects.

On his end, the co-president of the Miguel Angel Asturias Foundation, Sandino Asturias, said that he was born to share the legacy of Fidel Castro, who “was a creator of the internationalist ideas that Cuba spread throughout the world” and referred to the island as “a benchmark of solidarity and support and of what a Revolution can do”.

After listening to more than 10 interventions with ideas and initiatives, the Cuban official urged to put them into practice, “as they all have a common feature, the unity between two peoples and governments".
