Thanks to Cuban science, children are better protected

CIENFUEGOS, Cuba, Jan 11 (ACN) The intervention study with the vaccine candidate QuimiVio, developed by the Finlay Vaccine Institute (IFV) and given to more than 11,700 children in this province, stands out as one of the most relevant contributions to the protection of the Cuban pediatric population in the context of the commemoration of Cuban Science Day (January 15), according to the local office of the Ministry of Science, Technology and the Environment.

The general objective of the research was to estimate the direct and indirect effects of this vaccine, which has proved to be immunologically safe, against invasive neomococcal disease and its antimicrobial resistance in children between the ages of one and five.

Organized in 20 polyclinics and other sites, including daycare centers, the vaccination program has made it possible to reduce the incidence of pneumococcal disease, meningoencephalitis, pneumonia, otitis media and other respiratory ailments.
