CIENFUEGOS, Cuba, Jan 5 (ACN) The fight against gender violence and women's empowerment are two of the priorities of the Federation of Cuban Women (FMC) for this year in the central province of Cienfuegos.
Ana Ivis Gomez Hernandez, secretary general of the organization in the territory, told the Cuban News Agency that, even though many know the protocols for action or the places to turn to in the event of a case of physical, sexual or psychological aggression, they still do not achieve the expected results.
In response, she said, we have Women's and Family Guidance Centers in the eight municipalities, as well as the support of the Attorney General's Office, and we will continue with workshops, talks and exhibitions for training and awareness-raising on these issues.
In addition, since 2020 Cuba has a 103 telephone line to provide guidance and psychological support to victims of violence.
Gomez Hernandez said that they will continue with training programs for those who wish to join specialties such as hairdressing, marketing, commercial cashier, sales clerk, English language, massage and others.
On the other hand, she explained, more communities will have Espumas(Foams), an initiative created between the Industrial Company of Associated Equipment and Services and the Federation as a self-employment alternative for formerly unemployed women, who wash for the local inhabitants, especially for vulnerable people.
Other actions for this year will focus on food production, rational use of energy, confronting social indiscipline and illegalities, preventive work, the creation of new children's homes, participation in local development projects, sexual health education, responsible motherhood and fatherhood.
With a 91 % integration rate, the FMC Cienfuegos currently has 162,000 members divided into 595 blocks and 2,740 delegations, which actively contribute to the economic, political and social progress of the province.
