HAVANA, Cuba, Jan 3 (ACN) The Institute of Meteorology of Cuba (Insmet) reported that in some localities in the interior and south of the western half of the country were registered remarkably cold minimum temperatures, with values between seven and 10 degrees Celsius.
According to the report of the scientific center, in that range there were reports in nine weather stations, with the lowest value in Bainoa (Mayabeque), with 7.4 degrees Celsius.
Likewise, there were temperatures between 10 and 13 degrees Celsius at 11 stations in Havana provinces, in Melena del Sur, Artemisa, Pinar del Rio, Matanzas, Sancti Spiritus,
Villa Clara, Cienfuegos and the special municipality of Isle of Youth.
The western half of Cuba is influenced by migratory high pressures of continental origin, with its main center in the eastern United States and a secondary center in the Gulf of
Mexico, the INSMET statement explains.
It adds that these systems impose a very cold and dry air mass, and in addition, during the early morning prevailed weak winds, little cloudiness, the advection of air from the Gulf of Mexico and the processes of nocturnal irradiation.
