HAVANA, Cuba, Jan 3 (ACN) Cuba's Budget Law for 2024 contemplates more than 2.1 billion pesos to support science, technology and innovation (STI), which constitute one of the pillars of the country's system of government.
With the purpose of increasing its impact in strategic sectors of the nation, the figure is intended to financially support 17 national, 10 sectorial and 63 territorial programs, according to statistics from the Ministry of Finance and Prices.
It includes 525 million pesos for the National Science and Innovation Fund (FONCI by its Spanish acronym), a financial tool created in 2002 to favor projects of this type.
In the case of the social sector, it prioritizes Public Health, Education, Culture, Sports, Assistance and Social Security, which are benefited with 63% of total expenditures, representing a 37% growth compared to 2023.
A clear example of this is that approximately 26% of the budgeted activity is allocated to the National Health System, which will guarantee the provision of 110 million primary care consultations.
Education will also increase, with the objective that children and young people study at the Pre-school, Primary, General High School, and Technical and Professional levels, with an enrollment of 1,388,000 students. .
Expenditures for Higher Education are in line with the enrollment of 389,392 students.
