Diaz-Canel presides over the re-edition of the Freedom Caravan

SANTIAGO DE CUBA, Cuba, Jan 3 (ACN) With the presence of Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez, first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (CC-PCC) and president of the country, the commemorative ceremony for the 65th anniversary of the departure of the Caravan of Freedom is being held today in this Cuban eastern city.
 
Roberto Morales Ojeda, member of the Political Bureau and Secretary of Organization of the CC-PCC, the Commander of the Rebel Army Jose Ramon Machado Ventura, the highest authorities of the southeastern province, and leaders of student, political and mass organizations will also attend the event.
 
The event will be the occasion for the delivery of the card that certifies new members of the Young Communist League.
 
The caravan is the triumphal march followed for more than a thousand kilometers by the Rebel Army after the triumph of the Cuban Revolution, led by Fidel Castro.
 
From January 2 to January 8, 1959, the victorious bearded men marched through Bayamo, Las Tunas, Camagüey, Ciego de Avila, Santi Spiritus, Santa Clara, Cienfuegos, Matanzas and Havana, and in each place the people came out to welcome the combatants.
