Havana, Dec 18 (ACN) Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel welcomed on Monday the Reverend Jerry Pillay, general secretary of the World Council of Churches, according to the Cuban Presidency.
During the meeting at Havana’s Conventions Palace, Diaz-Canel thanked Pillay for his visit which “gives us strength and energy.”
Reverend Pillay expressed his joy for the meeting describing it as a privilege and he went on to express the World Council of Churches’ support of the struggle by Cuba against the US blockade, and its rejection of the inclusion of the island nation on the US list of states sponsors of terrorism.
The Reverend also stressed the freedom of religion prevailing in Cuba, which was thankful about. Pillay also held talks with Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez.
The general secretary of the World Council of Churches kicked off an official visit to Cuba on Sunday running till December 19.
The World Council of Churches has 352 member churches and nearly 600 million of Christian followers in 120 countries.
