Cuban MPs updated on international situation

HAVANA, Cuba, Dec 18 (ACN) The deputies of the Permanent Commission on International Relations of the National Assembly of People's Power were updated today on the complex world scenario, the changing correlations of power and their impact on the Cuban reality, on the day preceding the 2nd Ordinary Period of Sessions of the Parliament in its 10th Legislature.

Jorge Casals Llano, professor at the " Raul Roa" Higher Institute of International Relations, referred to a crisis in the system of domination of U.S. imperialism, characterized by the struggle between the old order led by the U.S. and the new one, where the main actors are not yet fully defined.

He pointed out that these contradictions are expressed in different ways, such as the unsustainable indebtedness of national economies, the environmental problems associated with climate change and the use of the military and financial muscle of the powers to maintain hegemony, scenarios where not only the configuration of the powerful are decided, but also human survival.

Along these lines, Faustino Cobarrubia Gomez, researcher at the World Economy Research Center, mentioned the dangers of the global dispute of hegemony, together with the risks of economic stagnation and inflation and the forecasts of experts who foresee the proximity of one of the worst economic crises of the last decades.

He warned of the dangers of the decline of the US empire which, once cornered, is capable of the greatest crimes to maintain its power at any cost.

Rolando Miguel Gonzalez Patricio, president of the Permanent Commission of International Relations of the ANPP, explained that this combination may imply a weakening of the bases of the coercive power of the United States to impose unilateral sanctions such as the one applied against the Island, although this scenario will take time to occur at a visible level and is not without challenges for the country.

During the debate, a proposal for a declaration of solidarity with the people of Palestine was presented, pending approval by the ANPP, against the genocide that demonstrates the incapacity of diplomacy and the current international order to prevent such barbaric acts in the 21st century.

The representatives agreed that, although the issue of the conflict in the Middle East is part of the public agenda, it cannot be allowed to be naturalized at a time when the clashes are costing thousands of innocent lives, for which reason it is necessary to continue with the condemnation of the crime.
