HAVANA, Cuba, Dec 17 (ACN) Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez evoked the return to the island of the five Cuban anti-terrorist fighters who had been imprisoned in the United States for preventing violent actions against their homeland.
In his message, posted on X, the president described December 17, 2014, as “the day Cuba celebrated the most awaited news of the previous 16 years”, in reference to the day when Gerardo (Hernández), Antonio (Guerrero), Ramón (Labañino), René (González) and Fernando (González).
“The Five returned; Army General Raúl Castro had fulfilled a promise made by Fidel Castro when he said in 2002: ‘They will be back!’.”
For more than 15 years, Cuba waged a tenacious political battle supported by more than 2,000 organizations in 154 countries.
According to data provided by the Cuban government, almost 3,500 people have died and more than 2,000 have ended up with disabilities as a result of attacks funded by and launched from the United States, particularly from Florida.
