Diaz-Canel sends warm hug to members of the Brazilian Landless Movement

 

HAVANA, Cuba, Dec 15 (ACN) Miguel Diaz-Canel, first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and president of the country, sent today a fraternal hug to the members of the Landless Movement (MST by its Spanish acronym) who began the days to celebrate the anniversary of their organization, which will be celebrated in January 2024.

On X, the president praised the preparation of the celebrations for this new anniversary that are being held at the Martin Luther King Center, and highlighted the multiple actions of solidarity and shared struggle between the peoples of Cuba and Brazil.

The MST is a Brazilian rural social movement, of national scope, which groups around 350,000 families in its rows.

The organization was created at the 1st National Meeting of Landless Rural Workers, an event held on January 20-22, 1984 in the city of Cascavel, in the state of Parana, with the participation of 80 workers from 13 states.

The MST was born as a result of the territorial and social inequalities of the Brazilian State and its structural agrarian question and its main banner was the demand for popular agrarian reform.
