Cuba Issues Early Warning on Severe Weather Phenomenon

Havana, Dec 14 (ACN) The Cuban Weather Forecast Center issued an early warning advisory on severe weather for the weekend due to an extra-tropical low to affect the Gulf of Mexico on Friday and impacting western Cuba over the next few days.

The extensive law associated to a cold front will affect western Cuba on Saturday December 16 with strong winds from the south, which could cause flooding in low laying areas of the southern Cuban coast. A large cloudy areas will pour heavy rains and produce thunderstorms, which could be locally very strong, while the occurrence of severe local storms is not discarded.

Meanwhile, the cold front is expected to run east over Cuba taking the rains towards the central and eastern portions of the island.

The combination of low extra-tropical pressures on Southeastern United States and high continental pressures will generate strong winds from the northeast on Saturday and Sunday over the Gulf of Mexico and western Cuba. This situation could lead to ocean surge on the northern Cuban coast causing flooding in areas likes Havana Malecon seafront drive on Sunday.
