Díaz-Canel heads Higher Education Awards ceremony



HAVANA, Cuba, Dec 13 (ACN) Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel headed the national ceremony to confer Higher Education awards to a group of university and other professors from entities engaged in science, technology and innovation.

The winners of the Frank País Order of the First Degree received the commendation from the Cuban leader himself, whereas other attending authorities handed out the Order of the Second Degree, the José Tey Medal, and the Distinction for Cuban Education.

On behalf of the awardees, ScD. Osana Moleiro Pérez, rector of the Marta Abreu Central University of Las Villas, recalled the Apostle José Martí and stressed that teachers have the great responsibility of defending Martí's work and thought.

On his end, ScD. Walter Baluja García, Minister of Higher Education, referred to Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz’s word when he defined education as an essential part of the Cuban Revolution and described Cuban teachers as architects of the battle for humanist values and an inseparable part of the transforming process of socialism in the country.
