Cuban Association of Social Communicators Congress kicks off in Havana

HAVANA, Cuba, Dec 12 (ACN) The 7th Congress of the Cuban Association of Social Communicators (ACCS) opened today in Havana to analyze the progress, shortcomings and challenges in terms of communication in accordance with the country's needs.

Rosa Maria Perez Gutierrez, national president of the ACCS, told delegates that the event, which concludes tomorrow, is taking place in a transcendental stage due to the economic, social and political conditions of the international scenario, from which Cuba is no exception.

At the opening of the event, attended by Jorge Luis Perdomo Di-Lella, deputy prime minister of the country, Perez Gutierrez presented the report corresponding to the work during 2017-2023, which had as its essential objective to contribute, from communication, to the updating of the country's economic-social model.

According to the national president of the ACCS, this area is linked to science, technology and innovation, essential pillars for the advancement of the nation.

She said that during this stage, the creation of spaces and actions for professional improvement to raise the level of social communicators was guaranteed.

Examples include events dedicated to marketing, advice to institutions and new forms of state management, as well as the distribution and socialization of research related to the field of communication.

She emphasized the ways to legitimize this area, which resulted in the approval of the Communication Policy of the State and the Government in 2018 and, consequently, in that of the Social Communication Law, where the ACCS had a special participation.

The national president of the Association specified that work is being done on the Regulation of that legal regulation and on another one that stipulates the exercise of advertising and sponsorship in Cuba.

Perez Gutierrez highlighted the presence of the entity in the visual identification of the World Peace Congress, the "yes" campaign for the Constitutional Referendum on the Family Code and the communication strategy of the Food Sovereignty and Food and Nutritional Security Law.
