Chinese metrologists will train Cuban counterparts

HAVANA, Cuba, Dec 10 (ACN) Experts from the National Metrology Institute (NIM) of the People's Republic of China will give a workshop-course to Cuban metrologists, who will learn first-hand about both the state of the art of the science of measurements and China’s scientific and industrial metrological capabilities, based on its own internationally recognized measuring instruments and systems.

The trainees will be researchers and specialists from the National Metrology Research Institute (INIMET), the National Bureau of Standards (ONN) and its regional offices, and the National State Inspection Bureau, as well as from Cuba's Center for Advanced Studies and the Business Group of the Biotechnological and Pharmaceutical Industries (BioCubaFarma).

The 30th Session of the Intergovernmental Commission for economic, commercial, financial and scientific-technological cooperation between the two countries, held in Beijing on October 19 to 24 and co-chaired by Cuban Deputy Prime Minister Ricardo Cabrisas Ruiz and China’s Minister of Trade Wang Wentao, included the signing of important agreements and helped strengthen bilateral links in fields of common interest such as biotechnology, renewable energy sources, food production, tourism, info-communications, sugar industry, transportation, and trade, among others.

In September 2019, a joint INIMET/ONN delegation visited the NIM to organized cooperation actions that included Chinese technical assistance to Cuba, mainly in terms of infrastructure design, training, and intercomparisons to support the publication of INIMET's calibration and measurement capabilities on the KCDB, the database of the International Bureau of Weights and Measures (BIPM).
