Cuba praises the role of the Forum of Supporters against neocolonialism

 

HAVANA, Cuba, Nov 21 (ACN) Emilio Lozada Garcia, head of the International Relations Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC), praised today the "Forum of Supporters of the struggle against contemporary practices of neocolonialism" as a space of coordination to confront all the colonial vestiges that continue existing.

Speaking via videoconference at the 3rd preparatory session of the organizing committee of the event, headed by the United Russia party, the Cuban official also highlighted the opportunities to strengthen multipolarity and fight against the policies of blockades, sanctions, meddling, media sieges and wars.

He pointed out that the persistence of colonialism and the new contemporary practices of neocolonialism are the old roots of the current economic, social and financial crisis that affects, above all, the poorest countries and the dispossessed majorities.

Lozada Garcia stressed that Latin America and the Caribbean is the region of the planet with more colonies and colonial enclaves, and in this regard, reaffirmed the commitment of the PCC with the self-determination and independence of Puerto Rico.

Similarly, he said, the Cuban political formation supports the search for a negotiated, just and definitive political solution that guarantees the exercise of the legitimate right of the Saharawi people to self-determination and to live in peace in their territory.

He also condemned the indiscriminate attacks by the Israeli army against the civilian population in the Gaza Strip, the bombing of hospitals, ambulances and schools and the massive destruction of homes and vital infrastructure, which he described as collective punishment and a serious violation of international humanitarian law.

More than 60 years after the United Nations General Assembly proclaimed the need to put a rapid and unconditional end to colonialism in all its forms and manifestations, Palestine continues being denied its own existence as a State, Cuban diplomat added.

Regarding the particular case of Cuba, he affirmed that the criminal and genocidal economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States has tightened as never before, and furthermore, the inclusion in the spurious List of State Sponsors of Terrorism has a dissuasive and intimidating character in financial matters.

He also reiterated the opposition of the PCC to the sanctions policy of the West against the Russian Federation and to the expansion of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization towards the borders of that Eurasian country, which is the main cause of the war currently being waged on the European continent.
