Santiago de Cuba, Nov 20 (ACN) The head of the Cuban Civil Defense Staff, Division General Ramon Pardo Guerra described as positive the rapid response by the people of Santiago de Cuba to intense rains, which affected this eastern province on November 17 and 18.
During working session in Santiago, Pardo Guerra stressed the most significant actions including the cleansing of areas near rivers and the trimming of trees in urban areas.
He also underscored the use of current technology and the permanent contact with people in mountainous areas in an effort to reduce disaster risks.
Vice-governor in Santiago Manuel Falcon recalled that 17 thousand 689 people were evacuated.
