Havana hosts 3rd International Congress on Secondary Education

HAVANA, Cuba, Nov 20 (ACN) The 3rd International Congress on Secondary Education kicks off today until Nov. 23 at the Habana Libre Hotel in Havana.

The event, which will be attended by 250 Cuban delegates who work as teachers of that education, will discuss the challenges facing teaching between the 7th and 9th grades.

Adalberto Revilla Vega, national director of Secondary Education in Cuba, recently informed that the event will be attended by teachers, researchers and decision-makers from the education sector of countries such as Mexico, Venezuela, Panama and Honduras, a country that will especially include Daniel Sponda, Minister of Education of that Central American country.

Revilla Vega stressed that the main topics of the conclave include inclusion in educational institutions, the learning of Social, Humanistic and Exact Sciences, and the preparation and continuous professionalization of teachers in Secondary Education.

They will discuss the readjustments in education in the midst of the complex economic situation Cuba is going through, without leaving aside the improvement of the National Education System that is still being developed, he said.

During four days, participants will discuss transversal issues in the sector such as the National Program for the Advancement of Women, cultural colonization, sexuality, the gender approach and bullying at school and on virtual platforms.

They will also talk about the integral and vocational training of adolescents to guarantee the continuity of studies towards Higher Secondary Education.

For the national director of Secondary Education, the congress is an opportunity to socialize the good practices left by the COVID-19 pandemic -a stage in which Cuba did not stop teaching- and to review those that did not work in that education.

The celebration of the congress will show the priority that the country gives to this educational level, which currently has 1,163 schools and an enrollment of around 320,000 students throughout the country, he concluded.
