Cuba attends Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly



HAVANA, Cuba, Oct 22 (ACN) A delegation of the National Assembly of People's Power, headed by its vice president Ana María Mari Machado, is attending the 147th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) held on October 23 to 27 in Luanda, Angola.

Organized by the Angolan Parliament, the assembly will focus its debates on the overall theme of "Parliamentary action for peace, justice and strong institutions" and the election of its 31st President as a replacement for the incumbent leader Duarte Pacheco, from Portugal, as well as on the inclusion of the Commonwealth of the Bahamas as IPU’s 180th member.

All IPU statutory bodies, including its Governing Council, four Standing Committees, the Forums of Women Parliamentarians and of Young MPs, and the Committees on the Human Rights of Parliamentarians will convene during this Assembly. Also featured in the program are the 2nd Global Parliamentary Summit on Countering Terrorism and Violent Extremism and the adoption of resolutions on current international pressing issues.
