Havana, Oct 16 (ACN) Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel addressed the results of recent trips abroad as part of the island foreign policy, during a televised interview on Monday.
The visits to several countries over the past few months favored negotiations and accords of mutual benefit by boosting investment projects, finding debt payment arrangements and strengthening international relations that prevent isolation, said the head of state.
Many trips abroad this year representing the Group of 77 plus China have had political results with the signing of accords while achieving nearly unanimous support of Cuba against the US blockade and its demand to be withdrawn from the US list of states sponsors of terrorism.
The President said that some accords reached during his recent visits are linked to investment and trade, which can only be reached at high-level meetings, while many of them are in the works to be implemented in the midterm.
Diaz-Canel also referred to private meetings with US political personalities during his visit to New York. That was an opportunity to talk, explain and clear out doubts based on discrediting campaigns against Cuba, and we achieved understanding of the country’s situation, he noted.
The First Secretary of Cuba’s Communist Party also stressed the election of the island as member of the UN Human Rights Council describing it as an acknowledgment to the coherence, braveness and the way Cuba has defended its own principles with firmness.
“It is and expression of recognition, admiration, respect and support towards Cuba; it is a political and diplomatic victory of the Revolution,” he noted.
