Cuban President says that the Island will Overcome Economic Slump

Havana, Oct 16 (ACN) Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez said on a televised interview on Monday that amidst current conditions, Cubans must be able to produce goods and distribute the little they have with equity and social justice, keeping unity; that’s how the country can get ahead.

The head of state assure “we will get ahead, I’m convinced of that, but we must work, create the conditions and above all raise awareness about what we can do, we must believe in what we can achieve.”

During the interview the President referred to the current Cuban scenario marked by shortage of fuel and social problems linked to the economic situation.

He said measures have been adopted while there is an economic and social strategy underway which includes a stabilization program; such measures will be gradually implemented to avoid any complication since the initiatives could imply high risks.

Diaz-Canel noted that as a principle all measures to be implemented must consider vulnerable population sectors, the women, youths, children and adolescents, senior citizens in order to manage risks and complex realities.

He addressed good practices in some places, the strengthening of local production systems that provide municipal autonomy and may turn into sources of development while a production increase is crucial to have a larger offer of goods and services, which can help lower prices and order the rest of the economy.
